This is Cedarvale Health Retreat sharing Health Hope and Happiness. ----------- What nourishes the mind? The mind or brain needs a steady fuel supply. It runs on glucose, and the best way to provide this is through complex carbohydrates or starches – such as in wholegrains, legumes and starchy vegetables. This is better than refined carbohydrates or sugars which can spike blood sugar, then drop too low. Your brain also relies on special nutrients such as tryptophan, omega-3 and folate. Tryptophan and folate are used to make neurotransmitters that boost mood and mental clarity, while omega-3 is anti-inflammatory and supports healthy brain structure and function. Crushed flaxseeds and chia seeds are good sources of tryptophan and omega-3, while legumes, wholegrains and leafy green vegetables are good sources of folate. Last but not least, your brain needs water. It’s 75% water and reacts to a lack by giving you a headache!
